One Ukrainian lawmaker described the situation as heartbreaking. A Ukrainian military officer fighting in the Kursk region said that while the situation is not ideal, it is “Better war, than shameful peace.” Zelensky himself left the White House without holding a planned press conference.
Trump’s Position:
After the meeting, Trump posted on social media that Zelensky “is not ready for Peace” and claimed Zelensky disrespected the U.S. A planned deal to give the U.S. access to Ukraine’s mineral resources in exchange for war aid was not signed.

Some members of parliament called for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to withdraw an invitation for Trump to visit the UK. Robert Jenrick, a senior Conservative Party leader, described the meeting as a “degrading spectacle.” Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats Party, accused Trump and Vice President JD Vance of bullying Zelensky.

Ukrainian political analyst Maria Zolkina praised Zelensky for how he handled the situation. Zelensky’s top advisor Andriy Yermak defended his approach in the meeting. However, Ukrainian opposition lawmaker Mykola Kniazhytskyi expressed concern that the meeting would only benefit the Kremlin, as the meeting was unfortunate.
