In a major initiative to improve regional connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Jammu railway division through a virtual event on Monday. This development aims to fulfill the long-standing aspirations of residents by improving their access to other parts of India.
The new railway division is expected to create job opportunities, foster infrastructure growth, boost tourism, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Jammu. It will oversee several key railway sections, including:
- Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla (423 route km)
- Bhogpur-Sirwal-Pathankot (87.21 route km)
- Batala-Pathankot (68.17 route km)
- Pathankot-Joginder Nagar (163.72 route km)

In total, the division will manage approximately 742.1 kilometers of railway lines. It will also be responsible for some of India’s most notable rail projects, such as the Anji Khad Bridge, which is the country’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Rail Bridge, recognized as the highest railway arch bridge in the world.
During this virtual event, PM Modi will also launch other railway initiatives, including the environmentally friendly Charlapalli New Terminal station located in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
The National Highways Authority of India has completed the construction of a four-lane bypass around Banihal town on National Highway-44. This new stretch aims to alleviate frequent traffic congestion in the area. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced that this bypass includes four viaducts and three culverts, costing ₹224.44 crore. Initially, two-lane traffic will be opened, with a full four-lane capacity expected within 15 days after further development.
This inauguration marks a crucial step toward improving transportation infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and enhancing connectivity for its residents.
