Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the guy who helped plan the terrible 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is finally back in India after years of hiding out in the US. On Friday, April 11, 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took him into custody for 18 days to dig into every detail of that dark day in 2008 when 166 people lost their lives and over 238 got hurt.
Rana landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday evening, flown in from Los Angeles on a special plane with NIA and National Security Guard (NSG) teams keeping a tight watch. The US agreed to send him back—called extradition—after he tried everything to stay there, even begging their top court, but lost every fight.

The NIA didn’t waste time. They nabbed him at the airport, took him to a special court in Delhi’s Patiala House on Friday, and got the okay to question him for 18 days. After that, a big team of Delhi Police’s SWAT crew and other guards drove him in a super-secure convoy to the NIA’s headquarters at the CGO complex. Now, he’s locked up in a high-security cell, ready for some serious questioning.
The NIA says, “We’ve got 18 days to ask him everything and figure out the full 26/11 plan.” They’ve been after Rana for ages because he teamed up with David Coleman Headley and terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba to plot attacks in Mumbai and beyond. This is their major opportunity to uncover the full truth.
India’s Home and External Affairs Ministries worked with the US to make it happen. It’s a proud moment showing India’s not letting terror guys off the hook. The NIA is pumped to get answers and bring justice for everyone hurt by 26/11.
