Punjab Kings’ new skipper, Shreyas Iyer, made a stunning start to his IPL 2025 journey with a breathtaking 97 off 42 balls*, leading his team to a massive 243/5 against the Gujarat Titans on Tuesday.
Iyer lit up the stadium with nine sixes and five fours, falling just short of his first IPL century. However, Shashank Singh provided the perfect finishing touch, smashing 44 runs off just 16 balls, including 23 runs in the final over, ensuring PBKS ended their innings on a high.
PBKS Batters Dominate as Shreyas, Arya Shine
Punjab Kings put on a thrilling batting display against the Gujarat Titans, thanks to explosive knocks from Shreyas Iyer, Priyansh Arya, and Shashank Singh.
🔥 Shashank Singh played a blistering cameo, smashing six fours and two sixes, adding crucial runs in the final overs.
💥 Priyansh Arya (47 off 23) showed no fear, taking on Gujarat’s bowlers from the start. The young batter, who was bought for ₹3.8 crore, launched Mohammed Siraj for a six and a four early in his innings.

🎯 Kagiso Rabada got the first breakthrough by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh, bringing in new PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas wasted no time, driving his first ball for a boundary and flicking Rabada for a six.
💪 Arya continued his attack, hammering Arshad Khan for 21 runs in an over, including three fours and a six. His best shot? A beautiful straight drive past the bowler. PBKS stormed to 73/1 in the powerplay.
🔄 Rashid Khan then turned the game briefly in GT’s favor, dismissing Arya with a turning delivery that took a top edge. However, his Afghan teammate Azmatullah Omarzai responded in style, smashing Rashid for a first-ball six over his head.
⚡ R Sai Kishore added to GT’s fightback, taking two wickets in two balls—removing Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell—bringing PBKS down to 105/4 in the 11th over.
🔥 But Shreyas Iyer had other plans. The PBKS skipper smashed his fifty off just 27 balls, launching two stunning sixes off Sai Kishore. He then took on Rashid Khan, hitting him for two back-to-back sixes—one straight down the ground and another over deep midwicket.
💥 Marcus Stoinis and Shreyas continued the assault, hammering Siraj for a six each, ensuring PBKS finished with a massive total of 243/5.
Now, it’s up to the Gujarat Titans to chase down this daunting total! 🚀
