A major fraud case involving Myntra, an online shopping platform, has emerged, with scammers reportedly stealing around ₹50 crore. This scam occurred between March and June and involved placing fake orders to exploit Myntra’s refund policies. The company has filed a complaint for a loss of ₹1.1 crore specifically in Bengaluru. The fraudsters placed bulk orders for high-value items and then falsely claimed issues with the deliveries to receive refunds.

Scammers have taken advantage of Myntra’s refund system, leading to a significant fraud case. They would place large orders for expensive items like jewelry, branded clothing, shoes, and cosmetics. After receiving the products, they contacted customer service and falsely claimed that they received fewer items than ordered or that the wrong items were sent. By doing this, they requested refunds for the items they claimed were missing, essentially getting products for free.

For instance, if someone ordered ten items but said they only got five, they could ask for a refund for the five they alleged were not delivered, allowing them to profit from the scam without paying for all the goods.

Myntra has a feature in its app that allows users to report problems with their orders, such as missing or incorrect items. Recently, it was discovered that scammers placed around 5,500 fake orders just in Bengaluru. Investigations suggest that a group based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is behind this scheme. After noticing unusual activity, Myntra alerted the Bengaluru police, who are now looking into the situation.

In light of the recent fraud, Myntra’s parent company, Walmart, is considering changes to its cancellation policy. While these adjustments may impact customers shopping on Flipkart as well, the specific details have not yet been revealed. This means that shoppers could face increased costs or different rules when ordering products online in the future.
