The Supreme Court has permitted podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to continue The Ranveer Show, provided the content remains moral and decent. He must also confirm that the show is suitable for all age groups.

Additionally, his protection from arrest has been extended, giving him time to cooperate with the ongoing investigation in Guwahati.

Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, told the court that the podcast is his only source of income and helps support over 280 employees.

The court warned Ranveer Allahbadia not to discuss the case on his podcast and barred him from further commenting on the ongoing investigation.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre and states like Maharashtra, Assam, and Odisha, criticized Allahbadia’s remarks on India’s Got Latent, calling them inappropriate and offensive.

He urged the court to keep restrictions on the podcast, suggesting that Allahbadia should “stay silent for a while.”

Justice Surya Kant reminded Allahbadia’s lawyer that fundamental rights come with responsibilities and should not be misused. He assured that the court would handle the situation appropriately.

He also pointed to a previous case where an accused fled to Canada, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.

Rules for Managing Social Media Content

The court instructed the Centre to create guidelines for regulating social media content and share them for public feedback and input from all concerned parties.

Meanwhile, the court denied Ranveer Allahbadia’s request to travel abroad, stating they would reconsider it only after he cooperates with the ongoing investigation.

The Story Behind the Controversy

Multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, over his controversial remarks about parents and sex on the show India’s Got Talent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had criticized his comments, calling them “vulgar” and “shameful” for society.

“This kind of behavior must be condemned. Being popular doesn’t mean you can disrespect society. Who would find this language acceptable? His words reflect a very disturbing mindset. “Why should we defend him?” the court questioned, as reported by Bar and Bench.
