On World Water Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to water conservation and sustainable development. He stressed the importance of protecting this essential resource for future generations and highlighted India’s ongoing efforts to ensure everyone has access to water.
World Water Day, celebrated every year on March 22 since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater and supports the goal of providing water and sanitation for all by 2030. The theme for World Water Day in 2025 will focus on the preservation of glaciers.
In a message on social media, PM Modi stated, “On World Water Day, we renew our promise to save water and promote sustainable practices. Water is crucial for life, and we must protect it for the generations to come!”
In a video, he talked about the cultural and historical importance of water conservation in India. He remarked, “Water is vital for life and is our most precious resource.” Our ancestors understood this well and emphasized the need for water conservation. From ancient texts, it has been clear that it is our duty to create lakes, dams, and reservoirs to save water.”
PM Modi warned that water scarcity not only affects individuals but also hinders national progress. He highlighted the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to ensure water availability and management, especially in rural areas.
He also mentioned the importance of conserving water sources in villages, reminding everyone that while some places may have enough water now, many people live in areas where water is scarce.
Emphasizing the cultural significance of water, he encouraged the revival of traditions that honor rivers. “Inspired by the Maha Kumbh, we should give new life to river festivals. This will help younger generations appreciate the value of water, promote river cleanliness, and ensure their protection,” he said.
