On January 14, 2025, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that every panchayat in the state will have an ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir.’ This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Odisha. The Mandirs will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), health workers, and yoga instructors to enhance healthcare access.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi pointed out that although the Ayushman Bharat Yojana was introduced by Prime Minister Modi in 2018, it had not been put into action in Odisha before due to political issues. Now, with the scheme’s implementation, around 1.3 crore residents of the state will gain access to medical treatment at more than 30,000 hospitals across the country. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and ensure that many more people can benefit from quality medical services.

The scheme will also ensure special medical provisions for senior citizens over 70 years old and covers nearly 2,000 procedures across various specialties. Under Ayushman Bharat, men can receive treatment benefits up to ₹5 lakhs, while women can avail up to ₹10 lakhs. This initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare services in rural areas and contribute to the state’s goal of a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
