Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Odisha Police for their successful joint operation against Left-Wing Extremists along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, which resulted in the deaths of at least 14 Maoists. In recognition of their efforts, he announced a significant increase in the risk allowance for the officers involved in anti-Naxalite operations.

The risk allowance, which was previously set at ₹8,000, has now been raised to ₹25,000, according to information from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). This adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing security measures and supporting those on the front lines. The announcement was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In a tweet from the CMO, it was highlighted that the SOG personnel played a crucial role in this operation, and Chief Minister Majhi extended his congratulations to all those involved. The state is dedicated to intensifying efforts against Naxalite activities to ensure safety and stability in affected areas.

During the operation, which took place at Kularighat in Chhattisgarh on January 19, a total of 14 Maoists were neutralized, including five women. This operation is recognized as one of the largest anti-Maoist campaigns in recent history and is considered a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight against Maoism.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also commended the operation, describing it as a “significant blow to Naxalism.” He noted on X that this achievement marks a major step toward creating a Naxal-free India. Among those killed was Jayram Reddy, a senior Maoist leader with a bounty of ₹1 crore on his head, underscoring the operation’s impact on Maoist activities in the region.
