In a significant incident, the principal and a lecturer from Abhimanyu Samanta Singhar Degree College in Balia, Jajpur, Odisha, have been suspended following allegations of attempting to rape a student. The suspension was ordered by the Jajpur sub-collector after the student made serious accusations against both officials.
Sudhir Kumar Rout, the principal, is under immediate suspension pending disciplinary proceedings for negligence in his duties. The suspension letter notes that he is currently absconding. His headquarters during this period will be at GC Degree College, Bari, and he must not leave without prior permission from the appropriate authority. Meanwhile, Pravakar Jena, a Political Science lecturer at the same college, will temporarily take over the principal’s responsibilities.
Bidyadhar Dhal, the lecturer in Economics, has also been suspended under similar circumstances. His suspension letter states that he is absconding as well and that his headquarters is also fixed at GC Degree College, Bari. He is prohibited from leaving without obtaining permission.
Both accused individuals have been missing since the student filed her complaint against them.
