Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, during a high-level meeting on law and order at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, directed the creation and recruitment of 2,000 traffic police posts. This decision was made to address the growing demands of the state’s increasing population and expanding transport infrastructure.

The meeting revealed that Odisha currently has 2,198 active traffic police personnel. However, the CM emphasized the need for an additional 2,000 officers to ensure better traffic management and road safety across the state.

The Chief Minister also discussed various challenges faced by the police department, including reducing road accidents, combating cybercrime, and eliminating cannabis cultivation. To tackle cybercrime effectively, he instructed officials to establish 20 new cyber police stations across Odisha.

At present, there are only 14 operational cyber police stations in the state, handling 2,633 registered cybercrime cases. The CM stressed that these new stations must be fully equipped with modern tools and resources to handle digital crimes efficiently.

To improve law enforcement in urban areas like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, CM Majhi directed the police to intensify night patrolling and enhance vigilance in key locations to curb crime and maintain order.

Additionally, the CM called for strict measures against cannabis cultivation and trafficking. He praised the success of recent crackdowns under the ‘Green Clean’ initiative and reiterated the goal of making Odisha cannabis-free by 2026.

The Chief Minister also commended the Odisha Police for their efforts in maintaining safety during major events such as disaster management operations, Navy Day celebrations in Puri, and the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, DGP YB Khurania, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, and other top police officers. Together, they discussed strategies to strengthen law enforcement across Odisha.
