Five-time IPL champions CSK against DC in IPL 2025 clash on Saturday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
However, there’s a bit of concern for CSK fans — their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is likely to miss the match due to an elbow injury.
With Ruturaj possibly sitting out, MS Dhoni might return to lead the team, bringing a wave of excitement and nostalgia for CSK supporters.
Gaikwad Still in Pain, Dhoni May Step In as CSK Captain
Ruturaj Gaikwad is still recovering from an injury he picked up during CSK’s last match against the Rajasthan Royals. The star batter hasn’t healed fully, and things are uncertain ahead of the upcoming clash with Delhi Capitals.
CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, gave an update saying, ‘Gaikwad is still in pain from his injury and hasn’t fully recovered yet. We’ll decide on match day. If he can’t play, we’ll need a new captain.”

With Gaikwad likely to miss out, all eyes are now on MS Dhoni, who could once again take charge and lead the team — a move that’s sure to excite CSK fans!
Veteran star MS Dhoni hasn’t been at his peak form in IPL 2025, mainly due to age and ongoing knee troubles. According to sources, Dhoni might step away from wicket-keeping duties for the upcoming crucial match. Instead, he may focus more on leading the team and managing his workload as captain — a decision that could help him stay fresh and sharp in the game.
Former Cricketers Back Dhoni as CSK Captain
With Ruturaj Gaikwad likely to miss the upcoming match due to injury, former cricketers are rallying behind MS Dhoni to take charge once again.
Harbhajan Singh, a former India spinner, strongly supported Dhoni leading the team. “You just can’t think beyond MS Dhoni. He’s the only real option. I don’t see anyone else captaining CSK against Delhi,” he said.
Former spinner Piyush Chawla added, “Dhoni will surely guide the team from behind the stumps. But the big question is — who will fill Gaikwad’s spot as a batter? He was consistently scoring runs for CSK.”
