Four members of a family, including a 15-year-old boy, were found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday at an apartment in Vishvevaraishnagar, Mysuru, Karnataka.

The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Chetan, a labor contractor, his 43-year-old wife Roopali, their 15-year-old son Kushal, and Chetan’s 62-year-old mother Priyamvadha.

Police suspect that Chetan may have poisoned the other three before hanging himself.

Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar visited the scene and later stated that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the tragic incident. A husband, wife, their son, and the husband’s mother have been found dead. The mother was found in one apartment, while the others were found in another flat within the same complex,” she said.

The mother lived separately in her flat. According to the Police Commissioner, Chetan, the family’s head, had called his brother Bharat in the U.S. and told him that he planned to take his own life along with his family. Bharat immediately contacted Roopali’s parents, urging them to go to Chetan’s apartment.

By the time Roopali’s parents reached Chetan’s apartment, the tragic incident had already occurred. They had called the police at 6 a.m., and officers from the Vidyaranyapuram police station quickly arrived to investigate the scene.

According to police sources, Chetan, who was involved in sending workers to the Middle East, had been struggling with financial problems, which led him to take this extreme step. The police recovered a death note from the flat, written by Chetan, in which he stated that the family’s decision to end their lives was due to financial issues, and no one else was responsible for their deaths.

In the note, Chetan also asked the police not to trouble their relatives and friends about the incident. He expressed remorse for his actions and took full responsibility for what had happened.

The call Chetan made to his brother Bharat was at 4 a.m. The police are continuing their investigation.

This case follows a similar tragedy on September 17, 2021, when five family members were found dead in their large house on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The police rescued a 2.5-year-old girl, Preksha, from the house, finding her in an almost unconscious state.

The deceased included Preksha’s mother Sinchana (34), her grandmother Bharathi (51), her aunt Sindhoorani (31), and her uncle Madhusagar (25), all of whom were found hanging. Preksha’s aunt’s nine-month-old baby was also found dead.

Preksha was discovered in the same room as her uncle, Madhusagar. The police were shocked to learn that she had survived for five days without food or water, surrounded by the bodies of her family members.
