Odisha’s IT sector is booming, with lots of investment coming in after the recent Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025. But there’s a problem: it’s getting hard to find land for IT companies. To fix this, the IT Department has asked for 25 acres of unused land near Damana Square in Bhubaneswar to build a new, modern IT park. This information was reported by The New Indian Express. Existing IT areas like Infocity and Info Valley are running out of space, and companies are already set up there.

The IT Department wants to use this land, which was originally for the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) because it’s been empty for a long time. They believe that a new IT park would solve the shortage of good IT spaces and help the IT sector grow, especially since Bhubaneswar is becoming a big center for IT, electronics, and semiconductors.

It’s important to note that some land in Info Valley was given to companies that aren’t in the IT business. Because of this, Bhubaneswar doesn’t have enough well-planned IT parks for different types of tech companies. The land problem is also concerning because Cognizant, in January, said it wanted to build its largest IT campus in India in Bhubaneswar.

Companies like SiCSem Pvt Ltd, RIR Power Ltd, and Heterogeneous Integrated Packaging Solutions Pvt Ltd are still waiting for land. Also, Odisha got over Rs 20,900 crore in investment promises for IT and related sectors during the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave. If land allocation doesn’t speed up, Odisha could miss out on investment opportunities that go to cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

So, the state government might need to act soon to make sure Odisha becomes a big industrial center with lots of investment and good infrastructure.

The Scarcity of Suitable Land

The difficulty in finding suitable land for IT companies in Odisha is becoming a problem that could slow down the state’s economic progress.

This delay means that big companies like Deloitte, Cognizant, and Concentrix have to rent offices in different parts of Bhubaneswar. The situation is made worse by the fact that some land in Info valley has been given to non-IT companies.

Odisha’s Vision for Industrial and Economic Transformation

Odisha wants to grow in more ways than just IT. It has a big plan for industrial and economic change. At the Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his vision for the state’s future.

Odisha is trying to become a gateway to Southeast Asia, using its history of trade to bring in more investment in manufacturing, technology, and ocean-based industries. The state has signed deals with Singaporean companies to encourage investment and partnerships.

Big industrial investments are also happening, with Tata Steel investing a lot of money and new industries like petrochemicals, IT, renewable energy, and semiconductors developing in Paradip and Gopalpur.

Future Outlook and Challenges for Odisha’s Development

As Odisha looks ahead to 2025, it expects to grow through government programs in infrastructure, education, renewable energy, and tourism. However, there are still challenges, especially when it comes to getting land and building infrastructure. Whether Odisha’s plan succeeds will depend on quick approvals, minimal environmental damage, and avoiding displacement of people.
