The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that it will provide comprehensive support to Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala after Yemen’s President Rashad al-Alimi confirmed her death sentence for the murder of a Yemeni citizen.
In a recent statement, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal acknowledged that they are aware of Nimisha Priya’s sentencing in Yemen and noted that her family is considering different options.
He stated that the government is dedicated to providing all necessary support in this matter, responding to inquiries from the media.
Nimisha Priya is facing accusations of murdering Talal Abdo Mehdi, a Yemeni national, in 2017. It is claimed that she used sedatives to incapacitate him to retrieve her passport, which he had taken. In 2020, a lower court in Yemen sentenced her to death, and this ruling was confirmed by the Supreme Court in November of this year.
Having lived in Yemen for over ten years working in private hospitals, Priya set up her clinic with Mehdi’s help after her husband and daughter returned to India due to financial difficulties.
