During a visit to the US on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about how India and the United States can work together, drawing inspiration from President Donald Trump’s well-known slogan, “Make America Great Again” (MAGA). Modi introduced India’s vision, referring to it as “Make India Great Again” (MIGA), inspired by Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again” (MAGA). He believes that when both countries combine their efforts (“MAGA” plus “MIGA”), they can create a “MEGA” partnership that leads to greater prosperity for both.

Modi explained that just as Americans know about Trump’s “MAGA” slogan, Indians are focused on developing their nation while preserving their heritage. He said that “Viksit Bharat 2047,” which means “Developed India 2047,” is like the American version of making their country great again. Modi emphasized that when the United States and India collaborate, it creates a powerful alliance that expands the scope of their goals.

The two leaders established an ambitious target to boost trade between India and the United States to $500 billion by the year 2030. This would mean more than doubling the current amount of trade between the two countries. Modi mentioned that both countries are working towards finalizing a trade agreement that benefits both sides. They plan to collaborate on joint development, production, and technology transfer.

Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening the oil and gas trade to ensure India’s energy security. He also mentioned increasing investments in energy infrastructure and deepening cooperation in nuclear energy, particularly in small modular reactors. He noted that the United States plays a vital role in India’s defense. In the future, new technology and equipment from the US will enhance India’s defense capabilities.

Modi announced that both countries are working to finalize a mutually beneficial trade agreement soon.

During his US visit focused on trade and tariffs, PM Modi engaged with both President Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This was Modi’s first official trip to the United States since Trump’s return to the White House. The meetings took place shortly after Trump announced new tariffs on all countries, including India.

Modi’s visit signifies a new chapter in the strategic partnership between India and the United States. The focus is on strengthening trade, energy security, and defense cooperation between the two nations. The “MEGA” partnership aims to boost economic growth and address shared challenges. This agreement will emphasize areas such as defense, investment and trade, energy security, technological advancement, multilateral collaboration, and fostering connections among people.

Modi’s visit to the US demonstrates the commitment of both countries to deepen their relationship and work together towards a prosperous future. This collaboration seeks to leverage each other’s strengths to achieve common goals and address global challenges. Both nations have rebranded the iCET initiative, which was introduced during the Biden administration, to the U.S.-India TRUST initiative, signifying “Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology.”

The discussions also generated fresh initiatives and momentum focused on the concept of “TRUST.” In a groundbreaking move, the two countries have redefined the iCET to align with this new vision of collaboration.
