A disturbing incident has come to light in Odisha where several Class 10 students were deceived by a scammer who promised them to cheat papers for the Matric exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE). The fraudster took ₹10,000 from each student, claiming he could provide them with answers. This shocking event occurred in the Nilagiri area of Balasore.

How the Scam Happened:

The scammer targeted many students, especially those enrolled in distance learning programs for their Matriculation exams. He falsely claimed connections within the BSE and promised to deliver answer sheets. However, after collecting money from multiple students, he failed to provide any answers.

The Consequences:

When no cheat papers were provided on the first day of the exam, students realized they had been cheated. This led to a confrontation between angry students and their guardians against the scammer.

Police Action:

Following this confrontation, law enforcement was notified immediately. A suspect was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into this scam.

This incident highlights concerns about academic integrity and how vulnerable students are to such scams. Residents and education officials are calling for stronger measures to protect students from similar fraudulent schemes in the future.

Victims’ Accounts:

One student recounted their experience saying, “He told us he had connections with people at the Board who could give us answer sheets for ₹10,000 each. But we never received anything.”

Additional Context:

In recent years, Odisha has faced several challenges related to exam security and cheating incidents. Measures like introducing barcodes and watermarks on answer sheets have been implemented to combat these issues. Despite these efforts, cases like this highlight ongoing vulnerabilities that need both authorities and parents’ attention.
