On February 20, 2025, Rekha Gupta was officially sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a significant moment in the capital’s political landscape. This ceremony took place at the iconic Ramlila Maidan and saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) return to power after a gap of 27 years, ending the decade-long rule of the Am Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal.

Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA and a three-time councilor from Shalimar Bagh is now the fourth woman to hold the Chief Minister position in Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. Her appointment reflects a historic shift in Delhi’s governance and is seen as a pivotal moment for the BJP in the national capital.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. The event was not just a political gathering but also a show of strength for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with over 25,000 security personnel deployed to ensure safety during the proceedings.

Alongside Rekha Gupta, six ministers were also sworn in as part of her cabinet. These ministers include Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, and Pankaj Kumar Singh. Their collective aim is to work towards implementing the Prime Minister’s vision for Delhi.

During her oath-taking ceremony, Rekha Gupta pledged to uphold the Constitution of India and commit herself to public welfare and development. She expressed her determination to maintain the dignity of her office while serving the people of Delhi.

The BJP’s return to power is significant as it breaks a long-standing political trend in Delhi and signals a new direction for governance in the capital. As Gupta embarks on her tenure as Chief Minister, many are hopeful for changes that will address pressing issues faced by residents.

Overall, this event marks a new chapter in Delhi’s political history, with Rekha Gupta leading the charge towards what supporters hope will be a prosperous future for the city.
