Bijapur, Jan 11 (PTI) — A soldier from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded in the Mahadeo Ghat area of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday, according to police.

The explosion happened in the morning while a team from the CRPF’s 196th battalion was carrying out an area domination operation. A senior official reported that during their patrol, the CRPF soldier accidentally stepped on the pressure-activated IED, which triggered the explosion.

The official mentioned that the injured soldier was rushed to Bijapur district hospital for medical treatment.

Earlier on Friday, a villager lost his life, and three others were injured when IEDs planted by Naxalites detonated in two different locations in the nearby Narayanpur district.

On January 6, an IED explosion set off by Naxalites in Bijapur district destroyed a vehicle, leading to the tragic loss of eight police officers and a civilian driver.
