Colombian President Gustavo Petro criticized the U.S. President, calling him a “white slave owner,” and insisted that the United States would not have control over Colombia. Petro expressed that Trump views him as part of an “inferior race,” which he firmly rejects, stating that he and all Colombians are not inferior.

The tariff dispute escalated when Trump announced sanctions against Colombia, including a 25% tariff on Colombian goods and visa revocations for government officials after Colombia denied landing rights to U.S. military planes carrying deported migrants. In retaliation, Petro ordered a 25% tariff on all U.S. imports, igniting a trade war between the two nations. However, shortly after, the White House announced that Colombia had agreed to Trump’s demands, including allowing the deportation flights.

Before reaching this agreement, Petro took to social media to criticize Trump, stating his dislike for traveling to the U.S. but acknowledging some redeeming qualities in American culture. He condemned Trump’s oil policies as harmful and expressed a desire for a candid discussion over drinks, emphasizing his stance against being seen as inferior.

Petro declared his commitment to his principles and resistance against Trump’s influence, comparing it to enduring torture. He asserted that he would not allow “slave owners” near Colombia and that he sought allies who value freedom instead.

In a powerful statement, Petro proclaimed that even if Trump tried to suppress him, he would endure through his people and their rich heritage in the Americas. He emphasized their connection to nature and freedom.

Addressing Trump’s tariff threats directly, Petro stated that he would impose similar tariffs on U.S. goods in response to Trump’s actions. He firmly stated that he would match any tariffs imposed on Colombian exports to the United States.
