During the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention held in Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the formulation of a dedicated policy aimed at engaging Non-Resident Odias (NROs) in the development journey of Odisha towards becoming a prosperous state.
In a session with NROs on the final day of the three-day event, CM Majhi stated that a specific minister from the state government would be appointed to address the issues and grievances faced by the NRO community. This minister will also serve as a liaison to facilitate communication between the Odia diaspora and the government regarding their ideas and concerns for Odisha’s growth.
Majhi assured attendees that the state government is committed to introducing this special policy soon, with the Department of Language, Literature, and Culture designated as the nodal department for this initiative. He articulated his vision for actively involving the Odia diaspora in the state’s progress and highlighted Odisha’s development trajectory under the new administration.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Non-Resident Odias (NROs) serve as vital connectors between India and their host nations, actively fostering the promotion of Indian and Odia cultural heritage overseas. He referred to them as a “triple engine” driving Odisha’s development, complementing the “double-engine” government model.
Majhi encouraged Non-Resident Odias to engage in initiatives like “Utkal Odisha” and “Make-in-Odisha,” inviting them to contribute their ideas and perspectives for fostering a prosperous future for the state of Odisha. He also noted improvements in air connectivity within the state, mentioning plans for potential flights to Kuwait and Qatar.
The meeting served as an important platform for NROs to engage with government representatives, fostering collaboration for mutual benefit. Prominent figures at the event included Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, and various ministers from industries, health, and higher education.
Overall, CM Majhi’s announcement marks a significant step towards enhancing the involvement of Non-Resident Odias in shaping Odisha’s future while recognizing their contributions to both local and global communities.
