Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Saturday that all buses in the state will be equipped with smart devices aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing accidents. Speaking at the launch of National Road Safety Month in Bhubaneswar, he mentioned that the state government will support private bus owners in installing these devices, which are designed to detect and prevent issues like drunk driving and loss of consciousness.
These advanced devices can analyze a driver’s breath and identify mechanical failures, which are crucial for preventing accidents. Usha Padhi, the State Transport Secretary, elaborated that discussions are currently underway with IIT Madras regarding the manufacturing and procurement of these devices.

The smart technology is capable of monitoring various scenarios, including tracking eye movement to alert drivers if they begin to fall asleep—a condition referred to as sleep hypnosis. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve road safety in Odisha.
