A tragic incident unfolded at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar after a third-year B.Tech student was found dead in her hostel. Hours later, the police arrested her boyfriend on charges of harassment.
The deceased, Prakriti Lamsal from Nepal, had reportedly faced mental and physical abuse throughout her three-year relationship with Advik Srivastava, a mechanical engineering student at the same university. Her friends and fellow students alleged that Advik constantly harassed her, leading to immense distress.
Following complaints from students, the police took Advik into custody and began an investigation into the matter.
An initial investigation suggests that Prakriti Lamsal, a student from Nepal, died by suicide following a troubled relationship with Advik Srivastava.

Her tragic death led to protests on campus, with students blocking roads to express their anger and demand justice. Many accused the university of suppressing the truth and called for a fair investigation.
The university campus echoed with chants of “We Want Justice” as students accused the administration of covering up the incident. Tension ran high as they demanded a fair and transparent investigation.
“They’re hiding the truth. They took her phone and won’t return it. The Vice-Chancellor and other officials are trying to cover up the evidence,” a student claimed in a viral video.
The students protested at the campus entrance, demanding accountability and a fair investigation.
As tensions rose, police were deployed to control the situation and restore order. Meanwhile, Prakriti’s body has been sent for an autopsy at Capital Hospital, and her parents have been informed of the tragic incident.
