On Saturday, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence announced that its forces had launched attacks on several locations within Pakistan in response to deadly airstrikes carried out the previous week.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defence, in a statement posted on X, did not explicitly confirm that Pakistan was the target but mentioned that the strikes occurred “beyond the ‘hypothetical line,'” a term used by Afghan officials to refer to the disputed border with Pakistan. They stated that their forces aimed at sites that were used as bases and hideouts for groups that organized attacks against Afghanistan. However, they did not provide information about any casualties or details on how these strikes were conducted.

Last Tuesday, Pakistan conducted an operation targeting a training facility in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province, intending to eliminate insurgents. This operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of many individuals, including a significant number of women and children.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding Afghanistan’s retaliatory strikes.

Pakistani officials have accused the Taliban of not doing enough to stop cross-border militant activities. In contrast, the Taliban government denies these claims, asserting that it does not allow anyone to use Afghan territory for attacks against other nations.
