The CBSE has implemented significant changes to the syllabus and examination structure for Classes 10 and 12 for the 2025-26 academic session. Key updates include the introduction of two board exams annually for Class 10, a new nine-point grading system, and the addition of skill-based subjects and electives to enhance vocational education.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made substantial revisions to the syllabus and examination framework for Classes 10 and 12, effective from the 2025-26 academic year. These changes are designed to promote skill development and provide students with greater flexibility in their educational paths.

Major Changes for Class 10

Biannual Board Exams: Students will have the opportunity to take board exams twice a year, in February and April. The higher score from either exam will be considered for their final results.

Mandatory Skill-Based Subject: To encourage vocational training, students are required to select one skill-based subject from the following options:

    Computer Applications

    Information Technology

    Artificial Intelligence

Language Selection: Students must choose either English or Hindi as a language subject, which can be selected during Class 9 or 10.

Updated Grading System: The grading system has transitioned from a five-point scale to a more comprehensive nine-point scale, allowing for a more nuanced assessment of student performance.

Marks Distribution: Each subject will be evaluated out of 80 marks, with an additional 20 marks allocated for internal assessments.

Passing Criteria: A minimum score of 33% is required in each subject for students to pass.

Flexible Subject Substitution: If a student fails a core subject (such as Science, Mathematics, or Social Science), they can substitute it with a passed skill-based or optional language subject for the calculation of their overall result.

Key Changes for Class 12

Annual Board Exams: Class 12 students will continue to take one board exam per year, with the next exams scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026.

Introduction of New Skill Electives: To align with current industry needs, CBSE has introduced several new skill-based electives, including:

    Land Transportation Associate

    Electronics and Hardware

    Physical Activity Trainer

    Design Thinking and Innovation

Revised Grading Format: Class 12 results will also adhere to the newly implemented nine-point grading system.

Calculator Usage in Exams: In a significant policy update, accountancy students will be permitted to use basic, non-programmable calculators during board exams to facilitate complex calculations.
