Odisha is set to take a big step in healthcare on Friday with the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) by Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The event will take place at the historic Bali Yatra ground in Cuttack and will be attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other important leaders, highlighting the state’s dedication to providing better healthcare for its people.
Transformative Healthcare Benefits
The Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to offer free health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family each year, targeting around 1.3 crore families in Odisha. This initiative is expected to help about 3.5 crore individuals by providing cashless treatment at over 29,000 public and private hospitals across the country.
Features of the Scheme:
Comprehensive Coverage: It covers hospitalization costs for both secondary and tertiary care, including pre-existing conditions from day one.

Cashless Treatment: Beneficiaries can receive medical services without any upfront payment at any empanelled hospital in India.
Portability: People can access healthcare services in different states without any issues.
Inclusive Access: All senior citizens aged 70 and above can benefit from the scheme, regardless of their income.
Integration with State Schemes
In addition to Ayushman Bharat, the Odisha government will also introduce the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY) and the Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana. These programs are designed to work alongside the central initiative, ensuring that more residents of the state receive comprehensive healthcare coverage.
The launch of Ayushman Bharat in Odisha is a major move towards achieving universal health coverage in the state. By combining central and state healthcare programs, the government aims to build a strong and inclusive healthcare system that meets the needs of all citizens, especially those who are underprivileged and vulnerable.
