Security forces in Chhattisgarh have recently achieved a significant victory against Maoist insurgents, killing 30 Maoists during two separate encounters in the Bastar region. These operations began early Thursday morning, with the first taking place along the Bijapur-Dantewada border and the second near Kanker and Narayanpur.
Tragically, the operations also resulted in the loss of a District Reserve Guard (DRG) member who was killed during the fighting. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the security forces for their success, noting that they had eliminated 22 Maoists earlier in the day. He emphasized that these actions are part of a broader effort to make India free from Maoist violence by March 31 next year.
According to police sources, 26 Maoists were killed in the Bijapur encounter, while four were taken down in Kanker. The intense firefight lasted for several hours, with heavy exchanges of gunfire between the two sides. Security forces recovered the bodies of the deceased Maoists along with a stash of automatic weapons, marking a significant setback for the insurgents.
In a separate incident, two security personnel were injured due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near the Narayanpur-Dantewada border. Fortunately, both are reported to be stable and receiving medical care.
These operations were launched based on intelligence reports indicating a large gathering of Maoists in the Gangaloor area. The coordinated efforts of various security units reflect their commitment to dismantling Maoist strongholds and restoring peace in these troubled regions.
