Mumbai police have confirmed that the fingerprints of the accused in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan match those found at the crime scene. The suspect, identified as Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested shortly after the incident that occurred on January 16, 2025.
In this alarming case, Fakir allegedly broke into Khan’s Bandra apartment and stabbed him multiple times before fleeing. Following the attack, which left Khan with serious injuries, police launched an extensive investigation. They conducted a fingerprint analysis, which established a direct link between Fakir and the crime.

Two staff members from Khan’s residence participated in an identification parade and confirmed Fakir as the assailant. One of them, Eliyamma Phillip, who was also injured during the incident, has been identified as a key witness. The police had previously utilized facial recognition technology to match Fakir’s image with footage captured by CCTV cameras in the building.
The attack unfolded around 2 AM when Fakir reportedly demanded a substantial sum of money from Phillip before attacking her. When Khan intervened to protect his family, he sustained multiple stab wounds, requiring two surgeries at Lilavati Hospital. He was discharged on January 21.
Fakir was apprehended three days after the attack in Thane and has since been held in judicial custody. As investigations continue, police are working to piece together the full circumstances surrounding this violent incident and ensure the safety of Khan and his family.
