On Wednesday, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced that 157 men, including transgender individuals, had applied for the Subhadra Yojana, a scheme primarily designed for women. Despite its focus on female beneficiaries, these male applicants registered for the program.

“It’s interesting to see such several men applying for a women-centric scheme,” the Deputy CM remarked. She noted that after conducting KYC verification linked to Aadhaar and bank accounts, the applications from these 157 men were ultimately rejected from the beneficiary list.

Parvati Parida explained that sometimes names can be similar for both genders, which may have led to confusion. However, upon verifying their KYC details, they confirmed that these applications did not meet the eligibility criteria and were therefore excluded.

The Deputy CM also urged eligible women residing and working outside Odisha to apply for the Subhadra Yojana as soon as possible. She mentioned that the fourth phase of the first installment of benefits will be disbursed shortly.

The fourth phase of the Subhadra Yojana is anticipated to be released soon and is expected to benefit over 20 lakh women. The exact date for this installment’s release will be announced following an assessment of the number of applicants.

This year, assistance under the Subhadra Yojana will be provided three times, including on International Women’s Day on March 8 and during Raksha Bandhan in August.
