A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 struck Tibet near the Nepalese border early today, resulting in the deaths of 32 individuals, as reported by AFP citing Chinese media Xinhua. The earthquake’s shocks were experienced in multiple regions of India, particularly in states such as Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal.

This area is known for its geological activity due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which form the Himalayas and lead to frequent earthquakes. In 2015, a devastating quake in Nepal resulted in nearly 9,000 fatalities and significant destruction.

The earthquake was noted by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) at 6:35 AM. Following the initial quake, two aftershocks were felt shortly after: a magnitude 4.7 tremor at 7:02 AM and another measuring 4.9 at 7:07 AM.

In Bihar, residents rushed outside their homes as the tremors shook buildings, but fortunately, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries in India. The seismic activity in this region continues to raise concerns about preparedness for such natural disasters.
