In a recent encounter in Kulgam, South Kashmir, five militants were killed, and two Indian Army soldiers were injured during a gunfight on Thursday. The clash took place in an orchard in Kadder village, where security forces had surrounded the area after receiving information about the militants’ presence.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reported that they have found the locations of the five militants’ bodies, but they have not yet been able to retrieve them. Authorities believe these militants are likely locals, but their identities will be confirmed later.
The operation began when a joint team of J&K Police and the Army went into Kadder village based on credible intelligence. As the security forces moved in, the militants rushed out of a house and opened fire, trying to escape the cordon. In response, the security forces returned fire, leading to a fierce gunfight that resulted in the deaths of all five militants.

This encounter is significant as it is the year’s second major gunfight in Kulgam. Earlier in July, six militants and two soldiers lost their lives in separate encounters in the district.
The situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains challenging as security forces continue to confront militant groups. The rise in violence has led to increased operations by both police and military personnel to maintain peace and safety for residents.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of security forces to combat militancy in the region. Joint operations between local police and the Indian Army are crucial for addressing threats and ensuring the safety of civilians. As investigations into this encounter continue, authorities remain alert to potential risks while striving to stabilize the area.
